Check-out Information

Scholars in J status are required to report their departure if they are leaving 30 days or more before the end date on the DS-2019 form, so that the International Center can update the immigration database as required by federal law. Departments should also feel free to update the International Center with their scholar’s departure information. If the scholar is leaving closer to their end date, it is helpful for the International Center to know they are departing so that we can close the scholar’s file more efficiently.

Scholars may want to review the information at One-Year Bar and Two-Year Residence Requirement so that they may fully understand their options for future travel to the U.S. There are options after participation in a J program, even if one is subject to the two-year rule. This rule only affects immigrant statuses.

If you are a scholar departing, we hope that you enjoyed your stay at FSU and in Tallahassee. If you ever have any questions in the future, please do not hesitate to contact the International Center.
