Undergraduate Tuition Waivers

The State of Florida provides an allocation of money each year to be used for out-of-state tuition waivers for deserving undergraduate international students. The awards are made for one semester only for up to 12 hours.

Students are responsible for paying the in-state portion of their tuition, fees for the out-of-state credit hours waived, and any remaining tuition and fees for credit hours not waived.

The amount of out-of-state tuition awarded to each student depends on:

  • the amount allocated each year;
  • the number of applicants meeting the requirements;
  • the overall profile of GPAs (grade point average) of the applicant pool; and,
  • each applicants' cumulative GPA.
Awards are made by the International Center's Tuition-Waiver Committee.

Eligibility
  • Must be a full-time undergraduate degree-seeking international student in F-1 visa status.
  • Priority will be given to those who have completed at least one semester of study at Florida State University.
  • Must have a GPA of 3.3 and above
NOTE:
  • Students MUST reapply for each semester that they are interested in obtaining the grant.
  • Students on the 2+2 Panama program receiving in-state tuition, or students receiving a departmental waiver, and special students are not eligible for the Out-of State tuition waiver.
  • Students who are enrolled for less than the required 12 hours (for Fall and Spring semesters) are eligible to apply if the reduced hours have been approved by the student's academic adviser and the international student adviser.
  • Tuition waivers are granted based on academic merit; however, a very limited number of awards are given on a need basis. Please contact the IC Office Manager, Christina Harris at cmharris@admin.fsu.edu or at 850.644.4696.
