Option 2: Non-university Sponsored Insurance
Purchase an insurance plan comparable to the university sponsored plan that includes the all the requirements of Florida law.
- Research the available plans carefully and find one that includes all of the requirements.
- Call the company to verify that the plan meets all the requirements of the State of Florida.
- Purchase the insurance for 52 consecutive weeks from the first day of class in August through the day after the last day of the last summer session. Students beginning in Spring or Summer will need to purchase insurance from the first day of the semester until the day following the final day of the last summer session.
- Request that the company complete the International Student Health Insurance Compliance Form located at www.tshc.fsu.edu/intemational.htm and fax it to the Thagard Health Insurance at 850-644-4251, or have the company e-mail the form to insurance@admin.fsu.edu or present in person at the Insurance office, 1st floor Thagard Student Health Center, THE RECEIPT OF THIS COMPLIFED FORM BY THAGARD IS YOUR PROOF OF PURCHASE OF COMPARABLE INSURANCE. All requirements on the compliance form must be met in order for registration holds to be lifted, even if you do not anticipate needing the coverage.
- Check with the Insurance Office on the first floor of Thagard Health Center to verify that your form was received BEFORE your registration window opens. In the event it has not been received, this will give you time to contact the company and get it faxed before your registration window opens.
- When the compliance form is received in the Thagard Insurance office, the hold will be lifted from your account and you will be able to register for classes.
- Make certain that you have paid for 52 weeks coverage. Then there will be no Health Center hold on your account for Spring registration.
