On-campus Employment
On-campus employment is available to F1 students who are maintaining lawful F1 status. Employment should not interfere with a student's full course of study.
- Employment is limited to 20 hours per week when school is in session. On-campus employment is defined by federal regulations as cited below:
- "On-campus employment must either be performed on the school's premises, (including on-location commercial firms which provide services for students on campus, such as the school bookstore or cafeteria), or at an off-campus location which is educationally affiliated with the school. Employment with on-site commercial firms, such as a construction company building a school building, which do not provide direct student services is not deemed on-campus employment for the purposes of this paragraph. In the case of off-campus locations, the educational affiliation must be associated with the school's established curriculum or related to contractually funded research projects at the postgraduate level."
(8 CFR 214.2(f)(9)) Note: Bill's Bookstore does not meet the criteria above.

- Full-time employment on campus is allowed during regular breaks, as long as enrollment is not full time-winter break, Spring break, and summer vacation, as long as enrollment is not full time in the summer).
- No prior authorization is needed from the IC to be able to work on campus. However, if you do not already have one, you must apply for a real social security number. See the section on Social Security.
- If you work on campus, you must also submit certain biographical and immigration information to Glacier, an on-line program which determines the correct payroll deductions for foreign nationals for FSU. Look for an email from Arctic International or Glacier. It will tell you how to login and will give you a password. It is important to follow the directions in this email to avoid tax penalties or unnecessary deductions from your paycheck!
- A listing of on-campus positions can be found on the Career Center web site, www.career.fsu.edu and on the FSU Human Resources web site www.hr.fsu.edu.
