WOW Events Descriptions

International Student and Scholar Welcome Reception
All International Students and Scholars Welcome Reception will be on Friday, August 28th from 4:00-6:00pm at the Alumni Center (1030 West Tennessee St). Welcome remarks will be by the FSU President T.K. Wetherell and you will have the chance to meet international alumni. Refreshments will be served.

U.S. Culture Series
Staff from the International Center will present a session on adjusting to life in the U.S. and Tallahassee. Students spouses and families are welcome to attend.

English Reading/Writing Center
FSU's Reading/Writing Center (RWC) in the Department of English offers individualized instruction in composition and reading through one-to-one tutoring and small group workshops. RWC will hold a special session for new international students and scholars.

English Conversation Club
Provides an opportunity for all levels of speakers of English as a second/other language to meet in a relaxed atmosphere to practice conversational English. Groups are led by experienced English tutors. Students, scholars and their families are welcomed to attend!

Students Rights Session
Find out about student rights and responsiblities from Assistant Dean Rachel Bukanc. The discussion will include information about FSU’s student code of conduct and discuss the concept of “responsible freedom.” Be sure to stay for Coffee Hour following this session!

International Spouses Orientation
Session for international spouses at the Alumni Village.

Library Orientation
Staff from the FSU Strozer Library will give a tour of the library and talk about services they provide for FSU students, faculty and staff.

International Coffee Hour
Coffee Hour is held every Friday at the International Center from 5:30-7:00pm. International and U.S. students, scholars, and faculty gather for free coffee, tea, snacks and great conversations! It's a great place to meet new people from various parts of the world, see old friends and make plans for the weekend. Friends and family are welcome!

PIE Conference
Two day teaching conference for graduate student teaching assistants (TAs). This conference is free to participants and focuses on policies and services of the University as they relate to teaching. Especially for beginning/new TAs. Returning/experienced graduate students/TAs who would like to enhance their teaching skills and faculty/staff involved in undergraduate education are also welcome to attend.

Graduate School Orientation
We encourage all new graduate students to attend the university-wide New Graduate Student Orientation, Graduate Student Workshops, and Graduate Student Services Fair August 18, 2009.

Transfer Orientation
Undergraduates transfering to FSU from another US institution are required to attend this orientation, during which students get registered for classes and receive academic advice.
